We spoke to Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves about food. Their debut album is out on 18th of March on Captured Tracks, unfortunately the limited edition of the vinyl with Meredith’s menstrual blood is sold out… Stream ”Driver”:
Hi Meredith, what do you feel like eating right now?
I just woke up, so I am going to have breakfast soon, which is my favorite meal of the day. I will have a big salad, mostly kale, with half an avocado and two hardboiled eggs.
Where do you find the best water, then?
(reference: Interference fits: ”It makes me sick , it makes the water undrinkable.”)
If I have a choice, I will always drink carbonated water. I like Gerolsteiner, because the bottles are very heavy. Sometimes at shows when people are drinking 40s out of paper bags, I am secretly drinking mineral water and hiding the fact that I’m a nerd.
If you were to eat yourself, what part would you choose? Your broad back or your bad tits?
(reference: Dig: ”and i want to eat myself, broad back and bad tits”)
This is such a gross question, but I like it. I probably wouldn’t eat myself, just because I’m always really stressed, and I hear that too much stress is what makes wild animals taste bad when eaten. I’m sure I’m very gamey. There are far more delicious people out there in the world. I have gained five or six pounds in the last two months from eating really badly on tour, so maybe my liver would be good for some sort of pâté.
What’s the most important eatable part of your rider?
Seltzer water and tea. If a place is nice enough to give us some snacks, we always like healthy stuff like fruit and vegetables, but for me, I can’t eat before we play or I will probably throw up everywhere. Seltzer and hot water, if I see that I will cry with happiness.
What’s your favorite fruit?
I really want to be a dumbass and say tomatoes… I don’t eat a lot of fruit, but I do like bananas. I am always happy when we’re on tour and end up in a place where something delicious is in season, it’s one of the best reasons to go to Florida, because there’s citrus, avocado and strawberries.
Do you have a recipe you’d like to share with us? Maybe a soup or a cake?
I love to cook and always make extremely simple food – my favorite way to eat is putting a bunch of stuff in a bowl and eating it all together! My favorite breakfast is one that my ex-boyfriend and I used to eat almost every day when we lived together: a bowl of quinoa, kale sautéed with garlic, and kimchee, with dried wakame seaweed or raw pepitas or something crunchy on top, and Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, and then a super runny sunny-side-up brown egg on top of all that. You can kinda smash it all together. That, to me, is the best way to eat. Any combination of grains, steamed and raw vegetables, fermented foods, some protein. It’s all very good.
